The two-day event gives young people aged 12-17 from across northwest Queensland the chance to learn, connect and experience the unique world of rodeo in a safe, supportive and culturally appropriate environment, while learning the ropes of deadly choices and healthy lifestyle.

What is the Deadly Choices Mount Isa Youth Rodeo School?
The Deadly Choices Mount Isa Youth Rodeo School is an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 12-17 years to experience behind-the-scenes rodeo activities in a safe environment while learning healthy habits.
Participants will take part in Deadly Choices Education Sessions with a focus on healthy lifestyle and the dangers of youth vaping. These interactive sessions encourage young people to make informed decisions about their health, understand the impacts of vaping and recognise the importance of looking after your health. Participants must complete the education sessions to participate in the rodeo school.
Participation Eligibility
The event is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples aged 12-17 years. Participants must reside in north west Queensland, including Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Normanton, Dajarra and areas north and west of these locations.

Registrations can be completed online here.
Registration closes on Friday, 4 September 2026
Once registered, participants will receive a registration pack via email, providing important information and a consent form. The consent form is due Friday, 18 September 2026.

All participants will be provided with lunch for this event.

The event will proceed unless conditions are unsafe. Updates will be emailed to you.
Accommodation & Transport
Eligible participants from remote communities outside Mount Isa City can access two nights’ accommodation to attend the event. Check-in 2 December, check-out 4 December. Transport will be made available from Normanton.
