David’s Deadly Choice: To represent my people and where I’m from
Brisbane raised Socceroo David ‘Willo’ Williams plays for Hungarian club Haladas.
As a youngster the striker was rated one of Australia’s brightest young talents, playing more than 30 youth international and Olyroos appearances.
Williams started his professional career with the Brisbane Roar in 2006 before heading overseas to play three seasons for Danish club Brøndby. In 2010 he returned to Australia to play two seasons with the North Queensland Fury.
In 2011 Williams signed with Melbourne Heart, becoming the first Indigenous player to be signed to a Melbourne FC Club. In the 2013-14 season he was named Melbourne Heart FC Player of the Year, Supporters’ Player of the Year and John Aloisi Golden Boot Winner.
He is inspired by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players in rugby league and union and says he looks forward to seeing more Indigenous players playing football. “Hopefully in the next year or two we'll have enough Indigenous players for an Indigenous versus A-League all-stars game. We just need a couple more players to fill the roster."
